Ronseal Eco Shed & Fence Preserver

Ronseal Eco Shed & Fence Preserver is a water-based alternative to traditional solvent-based preservatives that can be brush or spray-applied. Its active ingredients penetrate wood to preserve it against rot and decay whilst leaving a long-lasting, waterproof coating that resists the harmful effects of weathering. The raw material content of the products, derived from crude oil (petrochemicals), has been reduced to less than 10% compared with 90% found in standard solvent wood preservers which has reduced the VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) level from very high to low. It is water-based, has a low odour and brushes can be washed out in water. It is packaged in a steel tin which contains up to 40% recycled material and is 100% recyclable.

WHERE CAN I USE IT?

Ronseal Eco Shed & Fence Preserver is ideal for use on rough sawn timber such as sheds and fences. It can be used on bare wood or wood which has been coated with a similar colour. It can be brush-applied or spray-applied using the Ronseal Power Sprayer or Ronseal Fence Sprayer. Ronseal Eco Shed & Fence Preserver is not suitable for use on garden furniture, decking or for wood in contact with the ground.

HOW MUCH IS NEEDED?

Rough sawn timber

  • Treatment - 2 coats by brush or spray application

  • Coverage - 4-8 m² per litre

For large rough sawn timbers

  • Treatment - 3 coats by brush or spray application

  • Coverage - 4-8 m² per litre

PREPARATION

Ensure wood is clean and dry. Finishes such as paint, stain and varnish must be completely removed. For rough sawn wood, use a stiff brush to removed any dirt, moss, fungal growth and lichens. Weathered wood should be sanded to remove any loose wood fibres. For best results, use a good quality brush or spray with the Ronseal Power Sprayer or Ronseal Fence Sprayer. The colour label on the tin is an indication of colour only, the treatment of a test area is recommended.

HOW TO APPLY

Shake thoroughly before and during use, do not dilute. Do not apply in wet conditions or if rain is likely before product dries. Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C or in high humidity. Do not apply in direct sunlight.

BRUSH APPLICATION:
  1. Shake well before and during use.

  2. Apply even coats finishing in either direction of the grain.

  3. Apply 2 or 3 coats as directed, allowing 2 - 3 hours between coats.

  4. To ensure best protection, apply to all surfaces. Apply to any surface cut or abraded after treatment and pay particular attention to all end grain.

SPRAY APPLICATION:

For best results we recommend using the Ronseal Power Sprayer or Ronseal Fence Sprayer. The Ronseal Power Sprayer and Fence Sprayer have an accurate spray delivery, however, due to the nature of the product it is recommended that cardboard or plastic sheets are used to protect any areas from overspray. Do not spray in windy conditions. Do not apply in damp conditions or if rain is likely before product dries. Shake the pack thoroughly before use. Pour the liquid into the tank of the Ronseal Power Sprayer or Fence Sprayer ensuring the maximum fill level of 5 litres in not exceeded. Secure the lid of the sprayer. Stand with the sprayer nozzle 25cm away from the timber and squeeze the trigger to begin spraying. Keep the nozzle a constant distance away from the timber and spray horizontally across the full width of the fence panel, working down by overlapping the previous pass by 50%. Ensure the vertical struts and edges are treated. Allow 2-3 hours for the first coat to dry and repeat as required.

CLEAN UP:

Remove as much product as possible from the brush before cleaning. Clean brushes whilst wet with water and detergents. Wipe the tin rim with a clean cloth prior to resealing the pack. Remove as much product from the Sprayer unit as possible before cleaning. Any unused product should be sprayed back into the container. Clean the sprayer unit immediately after use with clean water, fill the sprayer unit with water and flush through until the spray mist runs clear. DO NOT leave any product in the sprayer unit. Ensure the pump and wand are completely empty before storage. Do not empty into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for disposing of waste coatings. If using the Ronseal Power Sprayer please refer to the clean up instructions in the Ronseal Power Sprayer User Guide. Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
